چکیده

The mutual interaction between small oscillating cavitation bubbles (R0,10 mm) in a strong acoustic field ~Pa.1 bar, f 520 kHz! is investigated numerically. We assume spherical symmetry and a coupling of the bubble oscillations. Our results show that the strength and even the directions of the resulting secondary Bjerknes forces differ considerably from predictions of the well-known linear theory. This is of immediate consequence for understanding and modeling structure formation processes in acoustic cavitation and multibubble sonoluminescence. @S1063-651X~97!01909-0#

Simulation of bubble motion in acoustic cavitation

The many particle problem of moving cavitation bubbles in a liquid exposed to ultrasound need certain ingredients: Besides N bubbles and their positions ~xi and velocities ~ui, one has to specify the bubble sizes and shapes. Mechanisms for nucleation and annihilation or coalescence of bubbles have to be introduced, and a sound field distribution has to be given. Additionally, a liquid motion ca...

Collective bubble dynamics near a surface in a weak acoustic standing wave field.

The transport of bubbles to a neighboring surface is very important in surface chemistry, bioengineering, and ultrasonic cleaning, etc. This paper proposes a multi-bubble transport method by using an acoustic standing wave field and establishes a model that explains the multi-bubble translation by expressing the balance between Bjerknes forces and hydrodynamic forces on a bubble in a liquid med...

A simple model of ultrasound propagation in a cavitating liquid. Part II: Primary Bjerknes force and bubble structures.

In a companion paper, a reduced model for propagation of acoustic waves in a cloud of inertial cavitation bubbles was proposed. The wave attenuation was calculated directly from the energy dissipated by a single bubble, the latter being estimated directly from the fully nonlinear radial dynamics. The use of this model in a mono-dimensional configuration has shown that the attenuation near the v...

Experimental study on the intensity variation of scattered light from ultrasonic cavitation bubbles

Variation in intensity of scattered light from cavitation bubbles in an ultrasonic standing wave field at different contents of dissolved air is studied experimentally. The number of cavitation bubbles that repeat expansion and contraction correlates with the sonochemical reaction yield and the evaluation of the number of bubbles is important for perspective on the yield. Peak-to-peak of intens...

Spiraling bubbles: how acoustic and hydrodynamic forces compete.

Experiments to study the effect of acoustic forces on individual bubbles in shear flows have been carried out. In the system that we have used, the competition between acoustic and fluid dynamical forces results in a spiraling bubble trajectory. This dynamics is modeled by expressing the balance between Bjerknes and hydrodynamic forces in terms of an ordinary differential equation model, to whi...
